DESCRIPTION:I started painting with pastels and joined Ozarks Pastel Society in 2001 and soon became a signature member. I have exhibited in many shows and have taken many workshops. I am currently enjoying painting in acrylics with a group of friends at the West Fork Fire Station. SUMMARY:Flower Workshop - Gary Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Gary’s Flower workshop will be on painting an Iris flower.  Gary will send each person signing up for his workshop a drawing for your to transfer to watercolor paper so you can get started painting without having to draw the flowers first.  He will use a 1/4 sheet of watercolor paper for his demo.  He will also pass out a greeting card with a preprinted scene on it that you can paint and then send to someone of your choosing.  If you have time\, paint it during the workshop hours or take it home to paint at your leisure. \nThere may be a few hidden surprises during the course of the day as well\, so plan to come and have some fun. \nThis will be a one day class on Saturday\, January 10\, 2026. Our fifth annual 6 x 6 Silent Auction is a fund raising event supporting the programs and events of ANA. \nWe are holding our fifth annual 6 x 6 Silent Auction on the evening of Thursday\, December 11\, just in time for Christmas gift shopping. The 6” x 6” show is a silent auction that has become an ANA tradition to raise money for education programs\, events and program expenses. We’ve handed out over 220 FREE 6” x 6” stretched canvases to anyone that wants to participate. Artists take them home\, paint whatever you choose on them\, and then bring them to art drop-off for the December Membership Show on Friday and Saturday November 28 – 29\, between 1:00 – 5:00 pm. Help us build our ANA programs.

SUMMARY:Gary Johnson Abstract Expressionist Class
DESCRIPTION:Gary’s new abstract expressionist watercolor full day class will be filled with material and tips for new and old artists wanting to have some capability to paint in an abstract expressionist manner.  We’ll be using watercolor paint\, acrylic paint\, oil pastels or watercolor pencils along with some of your very favorites like salt and alcohol.  A materials list is below and can be found at the registration site. \nThis will be a one day class on Saturday\, November 15\, 2025. SUMMARY:ANA Studio Class with Mary Datum
DESCRIPTION:Make Your Own Art Christmas Cards\nMy process does vary but this is what I do when using acrylics. I sketch what I think would look good on a card. Then I transfer the sketch onto my blank card using my printer. I then paint it. However if I am using oils I draw right onto the card then paint\, oils can be manipulated so any mistakes with the drawing can be fixed. I use Strathmore Canvas Cards\, they come with envelopes. They are waterproof. Or canvas paper can be used. Just has to be cut down and no envelopes. \nI will be demonstrating something simple\, either a Christmas tree or a snowman. They do not require a sketch  I will bring some acrylic paints and canvas paper if anyone wants to try this.  I do not have extra brushes though. I will bring copies of some sketches if anyone wants to try something different than a tree or snowman.

DESCRIPTION:Come join us in the ANA Studio for a studio class every other Wednesday. Starting September 3rd the ANA Studio will be open to anyone that would like to come paint with an instructor/artists. Each session will be hosted by a different instructor\, but you can work in whatever medium you would prefer. We are here to assist you as needed. Each instructor will do a short presentation at the beginning of the studio and then be there to assist and coach you as needed. Classes are 3 hours long and you pay at the door. SUMMARY:Watercolor Intuitive Abstract Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Gary’s new abstract watercolor 3 day workshop will be filled with material and tips for new and old artists wanting to have some capability to paint in an intuitive abstract manner.  The cost for this workshop will be $300 for ANA Members and $350 for non-members. \nGary will run this workshop at the new ANA Studio located at 300 N 2nd St\, Rogers AR on Wednesday through Friday\, October 22\, 23\, and 24 from 9:30 to 3:30 daily.  More information will be coming and sign up will be through the ANA website at:  www.artistsnwarkansas.com. \nIf you have trouble signing up\, contact Gary at 479-249-5405 and he will assist you. \nThe Daily Drill\nDay One – I will demonstrate how to do an angular abstract painting with three steps that you can watch and learn from.  This will involve an initial drawing followed by blocking in the primary colors leaving a center of interest for later development. Next will be working from light to dark and development of the center of interest.  Last will be additional enhancement of the painting. \nDay Two –will involve doing an intuitive abstract where I will demo a lot of different approaches for you to choose from in your painting.  This will involve using many different materials you may choose to use.  I will bring stencils for use by you\, tape of various widths\, salt\, alcohol\, etc.  Bring a mouth atomizer if you have one\, you may want it for texture.  Most of all\, bring an open mind. \nDay Three  – will involve a series of demos for doing a painting of abstract glasses and bottles.  This will be a very fun one that everyone in the past has fully enjoyed.
