High Fashion Meets Fine Art
Cheryl Kellar was born in St. Augustine, Florida, raised in Houston, Texas, and lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is a water media artist who sketches and paints themes of high fashion. She is always happiest exploring the magic and drama of all things fashion in her work.
Early in 2021, Cheryl Kellar discovered the world of live fashion modeling being presented online. Nearly every day of the week brings an opportunity to access a live drawing session via Zoom. The group sponsor may be in New York or London, the model in Japan or South America, and artists from their homes around the globe who join together for a couple of hours of drawing quick fashion poses. Cheryl finds these one to ten-minute poses bring the most excitement to her work as the focus shifts from rendering a perfect representation to capturing a quick gestural and emotional response to the fashion and features of the model.
FIGURE DRAWING WITH FASHION
Come prepared to have a great time drawing with Cheryl as she shares some of the secrets she has learned that facilitate sketching the human figure in any pose. She will contrast the fashion figure with the “average” figure, and anyone interested in drawing a person of any proportion will
benefit. This gathering is NOT just for fashionistas. It is going to be fun for all. However, be there or be unfashionable!
Supplies Cheryl will use. (feel free to just bring whatever you have — paper, brushes, charcoal, pencils, pens, watercolors, oils, etc.):
- Bristol Vellum Card Stock, 8.5×11, 80#, Springhill Digital
- Pencil
- Good eraser
- Caran D’ache water soluble crayons, set of 10
- Tombow water brushes (or cup of water and a watercolor brush)
- Tombow Fudenosuke waterproof pens (Amazon, 2 for $6)
- Red pencil
- Paper towels

Cheryl Kellar was born in St. Augustine, Florida, raised in Houston, Texas, and has found she is fully at home in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is a water media artist painting themes of high fashion. Some of Cheryl’s earliest memories are of creating clothes for her paper dolls from the pictures she found in her mother’s fashion catalogs and sewing patterns. In elementary school she began to draw beautiful women in elaborate costumes. Developing her unique approach to water media painting has allowed Cheryl to create the bold and dramatic works on paper she has become known for. She is always happiest exploring the magic and drama of all things fashion in her work.
