My process does vary but this is what I do when using acrylics. I sketch what I think would look good on a card. Then I transfer the sketch onto my blank card using my printer. I then paint it. However if I am using oils I draw right onto the card then paint, oils can be manipulated so any mistakes with the drawing can be fixed. I use Strathmore Canvas Cards, they come with envelopes. They are waterproof. Or canvas paper can be used. Just has to be cut down and no envelopes.
I will be demonstrating something simple, either a Christmas tree or a snowman. They do not require a sketch I will bring some acrylic paints and canvas paper if anyone wants to try this. I do not have extra brushes though. I will bring copies of some sketches if anyone wants to try something different than a tree or snowman.
