Gary’s new abstract expressionist watercolor full day class will be filled with material and tips for new and old artists wanting to have some capability to paint in an abstract expressionist manner. We’ll be using watercolor paint, acrylic paint, oil pastels or watercolor pencils along with some of your very favorites like salt and alcohol. A materials list is below and can be found at the registration site.
This will be a one day class on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Gary will hold this class at the new ANA Studio located at 300 N 2nd St, Rogers AR from 9:30 to 3:30.

The cost for this workshop will be $100 for ANA Members and $125 for non-members.
Gary Johnson’s abstract expressionist materials list
- 300 lb watercolor paper so it won’t buckle when wet
- Whatever watercolor paints you want to use
- An assortment of acrylic paint but include Titanium White and a Black
- Black Oil Pastel stick or Art Graf charcoal materials
- Wax paper or “Sta-wet” acrylic paper or a disposable oil painting palette
- A mounting Board with masking tape for your watercolor paper
- An assortment of watercolor and stiff painting brushes including some large 1-2” flats
- An assortment of watercolor pastels or colored watercolor pencils
- Water containers, paper towels, facial tissues
- A sketch pad, pencil, an old credit card and a hair dryer if you need it
- Salt and alcohol
- A palette knife to mix acrylic paint
- Anything else you might want to use in your abstract creation

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Gary Johson
Gary Johnson is a Fayetteville, AR resident and self-taught artist, who now teaches classes and workshops. Educated in engineering and business with both bachelors and masters degrees he’s traveled extensively and taken workshops to help develop new ideas for his art by being a keen observer of surroundings he visits and paying particular attention to color, shape, and value. He is a Signature Member in the SCWS, KWS, WHS, and MSW.
