Vernon Habersetzer
I’m a painter who has lived in Northwest Arkansas since 2005, and started seriously painting with acrylics in early 2025. I’ve been enjoying every part of the creative process and try to paint a new piece at least once per week. I’m especially drawn to painting landscapes, and I believe trees are one of God’s greatest creations. I favor the Impressionist style and the way it uses color to capture light and movement, with artists like Monet and Renoir being major inspirations for my work, as well as Hudson River School artists. Before painting, photography was my primary art form for over 25 years and shaped how I see the world—especially when it comes to light and composition. That perspective still plays a big role in my painting today. Many of my paintings are based on photos I’ve captured during our family travels. We’ve visited every state in the U.S., and have also had the chance to travel internationally a bit, which gives me a variety of content to draw from. Other pieces are inspired by the mood and colors of classic Impressionist paintings, where I explore my own take on familiar scenes and atmospheres. Occasionally, I paint in plein air around Northwest Arkansas. For me, painting is a way to slow down, be present, and capture scenes and moments that feel calm, beautiful, or meaningful. I’m still exploring and growing with each piece, and I love that every painting teaches me something new.
